How Big is a 53 chevy pickup truck?

Is it legal to have people ride around in the bed of a pickup truck if there are seats screwed down?
Q. I live in Massachusetts and I have a pickup truck with an 8 foot bed and I was wondering if it is legal for passengers to ride around in the back if the seats and seatbelts are properly fastened down tightly. Thanks guys.

A. Call your state patrol office and ask. The laws vary from state to state, in most under 18 not allowed to ride in the bed.

How do I jump start my GMC pickup truck?
Q. I've jump started a car before but there's a big cover over the battery of my pickup truck with two electrodes sticking out. Do I need to remove that cover before I apply the jumper cables or can I just apply the two cables to the grey bolts that stick out of the cover? Also, can a GMC Sierra be jumpstarted by a Toyota Corolla or is a larger vehicle needed? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Asked by abdiver12 - Sat Jun 6 19:20:21 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. well if the bolts sticking out are the positive and negative battery terminals, then just hook positive to positive and negative to negative, and you can use a toyota, just let it charge for a few minutes before you try to start it

Would insurance on a small pickup truck be more than a small compact car?
Q. I am thinking about getting a small pickup truck (Toyota Tacoma, Chevy S-10 type truck). Would the insurance on it be higher than a Small car like a Honda Civic or Hundi Access? I am 18 years old so my rates are already high and have a clean record and I live in New York.
Asked by mcmatrix12000 - Sun Dec 9 22:34:38 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Almost always... Trucks have a significantly higher theft rate... Also, trucks tend to be in a higher percentage of accidents...probably because truck drivers as a group are more aggressive than small car buyers.

In your opinion, what is the best pickup truck to purchase and why?
Q. Money is no object: I need to know what is the best pickup truck to haul heavy loads, to work hard, and to endure the weekends at the mud hole. Thank you in advance.
Asked by Maria Gallercia - Fri Jul 21 23:55:39 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Based on such heavy duty usage, it sounds like you need an american full sized 4 WD pick up factory rated for 1 ton + pay load in the cargo area. If you plan to tow heavy trailers you will want to get a dual wheel pick up for maximum towing capability at a loss though of some 4 WD mud hole capability. A chevy, ford, or dodge 2500 or 3500 model with heavy duty manual transmission, radiator, suspension, and rear axle will do it all for you - haul heavy loads in back, tow heavy trailers, drive axle deep through mud hole, and even snow plow in the winter up north. Driven empty, the ride will be harsh, stiff, and bouncy and gets better loaded. Now at the end of the model year. good deals can be found but to buy new expect to pay $35-50,0 [cont.]

How can I order additional front seat legroom in a pickup truck?
Q. 6'5 and need more legroom in a new pickup truck. Will the manufacturer allow additional length adjustments?
Asked by aliviarayne - Fri Jul 14 21:19:26 2006 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. No. Cars and trucks have to be standardized for crash testing, location of seat belts and a million other regulations. (Not to mention the manufacturing issues if people could custom order lengths.) However a full-size truck such as the Toyota Tundra will have plenty of leg room.

What do I add in the rear of my pickup truck to get more height?
Q. Hello I have a 1984 Chev 1-TON Pickup that I turned into a tow tuck. I have a electric wheel lift in back. The other tow truck had bigger tires then then one I have now. I have no problem lifting. My problem is getting more height from the wheel lift. The leaf springs are working just fine. I wouldn't be towing anything heavier then a Astro Van. What do you suggest I buy to get myself more height(I could use another 7 inches higher when I lift the car up)? Some have told me to add spacers. What ever I add they have to handle the load of the car being towed. I also herd wheel blocks are not good for the purposes I need. Any ideas?
Asked by gooshyemail - Sat Mar 3 19:33:18 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well the only ways i know of to get more rear end height are blocks that mount underneath your leaf springs,(they come in 2in,4in &6 inch.) ofcourse you will also need new u-bolts (longer in length)The other way is get bigger leaf springs made up at a spring shop.I;m sure a spring shop could help you for all these things.Good luck

What is the biggest stock pickup truck?
Q. I am eventually going to get a big pickup truck, and was wondering what pickup is the biggest stock? By big i mean tall, cab size, and total length. I would not want to get a dually, so if one of those would take the cake, then just cross that off the list. Thank you for any help.

A. I have been a car dealer in Florida for almost 20 years. I believe its a Ford F550 & yes it comes in a Dually as well as a crew cab as well as a 4X4 .You can have a dealer put a factory lift kit 2 inches & up. Would strongly only suggest having it done by dealer, Ford , Chevy, Dodge. Good Luck & I hope this helps, Stephanie

What pickup truck will meet my needs?
Q. I drive a honda civic, which is great for me, except I do a lot of gardening. I want to get an affordable pickup truck for occasional hauling; things like hay bales and compost, etc. I want the smallest pickup I can find. Something that gets really good gas mileage. I'm going to keep my civic for commuting. I don't really know anything about trucks. I don't want to spend more than $2000, so it's going to have to be an older model. Recommendations?

What is a good small to mid sized pickup truck?
Q. What brand and year pickup truck is a good one? I just need an older one that will last? One that doesn't have many problems and the engine can last a long time. But not a ugly ancient old truck. More of the modernized town car style.

A. You said an older one, but I wouldn't go much older than something around 2004 or so...three years old should have fairly low mileage. The Toyota Tacoma is a good one, and Mazda B series are also reliable. Do some checking on the web first too...you can go to epinions.com and enter your search criteria to get some user ratings. Good luck.

Can a couch fit in the back of a pickup truck?
Q. I have to pick up a regular sized sofa from my friend about 35 miles away. I'm thinking of taking a Chevy 1500 pickup truck that my dad has. I have no way of measuring the truck or the couch, do you think it will fit??? I don't want it to fall out of the back on the highway. Thanks!

A. IT will fit at worst the end of the couch that is on the tailgate end will sit on top of the tailgate in the closed position . This prevents the couch from sliding out of the truck. IF it sticks out beyond 2-3 feet put a red or orange flag on the end that sticks out. That will keep the cops happy. good luck on the move

How do I install sheets of plywood to make a cargo box in the back of my pickup truck?
Q. I want to use plywood and 2x4's to heighten the box of my pickup truck. I want to haul stuff, including my motorcycle, across the country so I want to make sure I install it correctly. Thanks for your help p.s. what's the name of this contraption?
Asked by T Sparks - Mon Jun 21 23:09:50 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. well you need to get wood that fits in the pockets of your box usually 2x2's you might have to shave them down a little making sure that they go to the bottom of the pockets. figure that distance plus two feet put all six in (for a long box 4 for a short box) get 3/4inch plywood for the sides for the sides cut it at 2 foot and bolt it on to the 2x2's for the front put a piece in that matches the sides and sets in the bottom of your bed use 90degree brackets screw these in to the side and front 3 places on each side for the rear put a piece of ply wood a little wider than the bed on top and tight on the bottom you can put this one in with the 90's or get tail gate hardware they are called side boards you might have to shave the sides… [cont.]

I am trying to approximate a 5-year cost to own a used pickup truck?
Q. I want to buy a pickup truck for about a 1999 pickup for around $6,000 that will just be used for hauling items about 25/miles per week. I am trying to figure out how much it will end up costing year by year in terms of depreciation, insurance, maintenance, and repairs. I want to do this so I can figure out how much I will be spending over the course of 5 years including the initial purchase plus everything else for 5 years.

A. payment, insurance, maintenance fees, miscellanious(fluids&such ), and add them all up. There are 12 months in a year so divide by 12. Then for 5 years divide again by 5 to get your monthly pay cost. If you just want annual, add up all figures and divide by 5. (if you only have insurance quote on a monthly quote, multiply by 12 then add to total before dividing by 5). It's a fairly simple math equation. For your maintenance fees include pricing for oil changes and any other "hired out" work that will be done in the coarse of one year. For the miscellaneous fund you will have washer fluid, brake fluid(if not done at shop), anti freeze, wind shield wipers, etc. Get an estimated yearly replacement on these items and go from there. … [cont.]
