A boat is a watercraft of modest size designed to float or plane, to provide passage across water. Usually this water will be inland (lakes) or in protected coastal areas. However, boats such as the whaleboat were designed to be operated from a ship in an offshore environment. In naval terms, a boat is something small enough to be carried aboard another vessel (a ship). Strictly speaking and quite uniquely a submarine is a boat as defined by the Royal Navy. Some boats too large for the naval definition include the Great Lakes freighter, riverboat, narrowboat and ferryboat. From Wikipedia under the

Asked by General Vic - Sat Jan 19 13:08:55 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Reserve your tickets at least a week in advance by calling 415-705-555, especially during the spring and summer. Without calling in advance, you can go to the Alcatraz ticket center at Pier 41 and purchase tickets and audio guides. Prices are $13.25 for adults, $11.50 for seniors (62+), and $8 for children (5-11). The ticket price includes the roundtrip boat ride, audio guide, and entry to Alcatraz. Get your souvenirs at Piers 39 and 41 where the usual offerings of shot glasses and magnets bearing pictures of Alcatraz are mixed with unique items like the green scrubs I bought with the words "Alcatraz Psychiatric Ward" plastered on the back pocket. Answered by samsoomathemadruba - Sat Jan 19 13:14:14 2008 What is the smallest boat type that could safely cross an ocean?
Q. I'm not talking about a 16' Boston Whaler that could conceivably make it across the Atlantic but a boat that could cross safely and keep it's passengers comfortable. For an ocean going, ocean passage sailboat - heavy displacement can be compared to the difference in the ride and comfort between driving a Volkswagon - compared to riding in Lincoln. Friends of mine (boating friends) think I don't get sea sick... but... I do - or at least, I would too - if I were on their boat... but though their boat is the same length as mine... mine is built for the sea... my sailboat displaces 38,000 lbs where as their vessel displaces 18,000 lbs... and the difference is, while they are hanging on for dear life... I'm having a cappichinno and watching to see… [cont.] Answered by Capt. John - Wed Jun 18 23:18:03 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Boat" |
